Bouwmeester, Elliss and Vaki Named AP Pac-12 All-Conference

Utes place two on AP’s First Team in postseason league honors
SALT LAKE CITY – The Associated Press on Thursday released its 2023 Pac-12 All-Conference football teams and included Utah punter Jack Bouwmeester, defensive end Jonah Elliss and safety Sione Vaki. Bouwmeester and Elliss were named First Team while Vaki earned a spot on the Second Team.

Each year, the AP Pac-12 All-Conference teams and are selected by a panel of seven media members who cover the league.

Bouwmeester is averaging 46 yards per punt this season, leading the Pac-12 and ranking No. 13 nationally heading into bowl season. Bouwmeester was recognized three different times in the Ray Guy Award's weekly "Ray's 8", and twice was tabbed Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week. He has sent 17 punts for 50-plus yards--the most by a Ute since 2018--and had a career-long 64-yard boot in the season-opening win over Florida.

Elliss has been named All-America by CBS Sports, College Football Network and USA Today, as well as a finalist for Polynesian College Football Player of the Year, the Lombardi Award, Lott IMPACT Trophy and Ted Hendricks Award. He leads the Power Five in sacks per game (1.20) and totaled 12.0 sacks on the season. He also ranks fourth in the country in tackles for loss per game (1.6) with 16.0 total TFL, racking up 37 total tackles and three pass breakups in 10 games in 2023.

A Sports Illustrated second-team all-American, Vaki started all 12 regular season games at safety. A finalist for both Polynesian College Football Player of the Year and the Paul Hornung Award, Vaki contributed 51 total tackles (8.5 TFL, 2.0 sacks) while also seeing time on offense in seven games. He earned 42 carries for 317 yards (2 TD), along with 11 receptions for 203 yards (3 TD), appearing three times on the Paul Hornung Award weekly honor roll.Â
