THE GAME
Another season is set to start with the University of Utah Lacrosse program taking on the Denver Pioneers for its 2023 season opener on Saturday, Feb. 4. The game, which will take place at Peter Barton Stadium in Denver, Colo., will start at 12 p.m. MT.

SEASON OPENERS
Utah is currently 1-3 all-time in season openers, dating back to the Utes' first year as a Division I program in 2019. Utah's only season opening win came in 2020 when the Utes defeated Bellarmine, 16-10, in 2020.

YEAR 5
The Utes are heading into their fifth year as a Division I program after making the transition from a club team in 2019. Utah is 22-24 all-time as a Division I team with 10 of those wins coming last season under the direction of head coach Andrew McMinn.
THE CAPTAINS
Prior to the 2023 season, Utah selected its three captains for the season in
Josh Rose,
Samuel Cambere and
Tyler Bradbury. Cambere and Bradbury were also captains in 2022 with Cambere also serving as a captain in 2021.
COACH MCMINN WINS
Head coach Andrew McMinn is entering his second season at the helm for the Utes, holding a Utah record of 10-4 and a career record of 86-69. He needs two more wins to become the all-time wins leader at Utah, passing previous head coach Brian Holman (12-20).
PRESEASON PRAISE
For the second straight year in the ASUN Conference, the coaches have voted for the Utes to win the league. Utah tied with Air Force for the top spot in last season's preseason poll, earning the spot outright in 2022. Utah is coming off an undefeated regular season conference slate in 2022, winning the regular season title.
SENIORS
Utah enters the 2023 season with seven seniors on the roster, including
Branden Wilson,
Samuel Cambere,
Cole Brams,
Zack Johns,
Ruben Santana,
Zach Chandler and
Dominic Mata. Wilson, Santana and Cambere have played in the most games on the team with Wilson and Santana appearing in 45 and Cambere seeing action in 46.
STATS ON STATS
Utah returns its 2022 leaders in scoring, goals, assists, ground balls and caused turnovers with
Jordan Hyde (40 goals),
Tyler Bradbury (33 assists, 62 points),
Cole Brams (111 ground balls) and
Samuel Cambere (28 caused turnovers) all hitting the field this season.
SCHOOL RECORDS
In 2022, Utah finished the year breaking 42 school records. Most notably, the Utes set program records for wins in a season (10) and consecutive wins (7), along with single-season points (314), goals (191), assists (123), ground balls (442), faceoff wins (209) and goals per game (13.64).
TOP SPOT
Utah finished last season ranked first in the ASUN in assists per game (8.79), clearing percentage (.911), faceoff win percentage (.536), ground balls per game (31.93), points per game (22.43), scoring margin (+2.29) and scoring offense (13.64).
Tyler Bradbury also led the ASUN in assists per game (2.36) with
Cole Brams leading the league in faceoff win percentage (.557) and ground balls per game (7.93) and
Jordan Hyde toping the conference in shot percentage (.465).
ASUN PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
In 2022, Utah set the ASUN record for player of the week honors, earning the recognition 10 times throughout the year.
ROAD WARRIORS
The Utes will play seven road games this season, traveling a total of 8.771.4 miles. Utah will start off with its shortest trip, heading out for a 513.4-mile trip to Denver.
