Former Utah All-American heading to WBSC World Cup
OKLAHOMA CITY – USA Softball announced its roster for the World Baseball Softball Confederation World Cup – Group A event on Friday and former Utah softball All-American Hannah Flippen is one of the players who will be donning the Red, White and Blue.
Flippen has already represented her country on the national stage multiple times, playing for the U.S. Olympic Team at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, as well as the 2018 Japan Cup and International Cup.
A native of Bonita, Calif., Flippen earned a spot on the USA roster after putting together a career at Utah that saw her become the program's all-time leader in runs, hits and batting average. Flippen concluded her career as the first four-time All-Pac-12 honoree in school history. She was the first Ute named Pac-12 Softball Player of the Year in consecutive seasons and the first person in the history of the conference to win that award, along with Defensive Player of the Year honors, in the same season. She also helped the Utes reach the NCAA Tournament three-years-in-a-row, including back-to-back trips to the super regional series in 2016 and 2017.
For Flippen and her teammates, the WBSC World Cup Group A event will take place from July 11-15 in Fingal-Dublin, Ireland. The competition will consist of a two-stage format with 18 teams competing across three groups (Group A, B and C) in Stage 1 followed by Stage 2, which will be held in 2024 and will include the top two teams from each group battling it out in the finals.
