SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah cross country and track & field team honored its seniors on Saturday at the Utah Spring Classic while also breaking some records at the McCarthey Family Track & Field Complex.

Shana Van Elderen got things going for Utah in the triple jump by breaking the school record with a leap of 12.75m (41-10) on her last attempt to not only win the event but also broke the facility record (11.46m).

The Women of Utah also started the track events on a high note with the 4x100m relay team consisting of
Dee Denis,
Emily Martin,
Maya LeBar and Josephine Eriksen breaking the school record and facility record with a time of 44.77 (aa) to win and give Utah its second event victory of the afternoon.

Utah took up eight of the top-10 in the 1500m race with
Lauren Peterson leading the way with a mark of 4:30.93 (aa) to take second in her heat and overall.
Bri Rinn won her heat with a run of 4:31.52 (aa) and finish fourth-overall while freshman
Kylie Hartnett came in right behind her with a mark of 4:31.63 (aa) for fifth overall.
Ariel Keklak (4:32.06 aa),
Ellie Lundgreen (4:32.17 aa),
Maddie Reed (4:35.48) and
Claire Rusovick (4:35.73) rounded out the top-10 finishers for Utah while
Caroline Fischer and
Chloe Kockler closed out the list or Utes competing in the 1500m race.

In the 100m hurdles
Harley Daniel posted a run of 14.33 (aa) for seventh-overall while
Rachel Whipple crossed the finish line at 14.99 (aa).

Josefine Eriksen didn't hold back in the 400m dash, breaking the facility record with a 53.07 (aa) to win the event while
Erin Palmer (58.18 aa) and
Millie Wilcox (58.60) finish sixth and seventh-overall, respectively, with Palmer's time setting a new PR.

Freshman
Emily Martin wowed the crowd on Saturday by running an 11.73 (aa) to win the 100m dash and set a new school record despite running against a head wind of -3.0.
Megan Rose was a few seconds behind her with a PR run 12.19 (aa) while
Malia Overton won her section with a time of 12.39 (aa) to notch a new PR as well.

Maren Busath made her track debut on Saturday in front of the home crowd with a PR time of 2:22.71 (aa) in the 800m run.

Dee Denis was back to her usual ways on Saturday, winning the 400m hurdles with a mark of 57.96 (aa) while her original time of 57.85 before adjusting for altitude set a new facility record. Meanwhile,
Ally Gomm won her heat with a run of 1:01.05 (aa) and take third overall – which was just ahead of Daniel's mark of 1:01.20 (aa) for fourth. Whipple rounded out the Utes in that event with a sixth-place finish behind a time of 1:01.88.

In the 200m dash, LeBar came out victorious with a sprint of 25.06 (aa) while Overton picked up a top-10 finish at 25.82 (aa) for sixth-overall with
Chloe Shewell running 26.64 (aa).

Utah's 4x400m relay squad of Palmer,
Kelise Davis, Wilcox and Gomm closed out the meet out for Utah, taking second with a combined time of 3:49.84.

On Friday,
Delaney Gates was Utah's lone competitor and set a new PR for the Utes with a jump of 5.48m (17-11.75) in the long jump for eighth-overall.

In total, there were 10 facility records broken on both the men's and women's side on Saturday.

The Utes will have a split squad next week in Southern California at the Bryan Clay Invitational (April 13-15) and Mt. SAC Relays (April 14-15).
