INDIANAPOLIS – One day after securing the first-ever Pac-12 Softball Tournament title, the University of Utah softball team learned they would be opening the NCAA Tournament at home as the No. 15 national seed and will start the national postseason by taking on the Southern Illinois Salukis on Friday at Dumke Family Softball Stadium at 1:30 p.m. MT, it was announced on Sunday.

For the Utes, this marks their 17th NCAA Tournament appearance and their first since a 2017 campaign that saw them reach super regionals. They will trying to improve upon a 26-24 record in the regional round and make it three straight trips to the tournament which Utah has earned a ticket to supers.
Friday's clash will be the first ever between the Utes and the Salukis, who punched their ticket to the dance by rattling off four straight victories in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament to take home the league championship and reach the NCAA Tournament for the 14th time.
Utah and Southern Illinois will not be the only teams competing in Salt Lake City, as Baylor and Ole Miss will get things started by squaring off on Friday at 11 a.m. MT.
