LOUISVILLE – Utah Football tight end Brant Kuithe has been named to the 2023 Paul Hornung Award Preseason Watch List, presented by Texas Roadhouse.
The award recognizes the most versatile, high-level performer in the FBS each year. Kuithe, who primarily is known as a tight end, has shown his ability to be a human swiss army knife, showing up as a weapon for the Utah offense all over the field.
Through 51 career games at Utah, Kuithe has racked up 1,882 receiving yards on 148 catches (16 TDs) with 17 carries for 162 rushing yards (4 TDs), also blocking on the line for one of the best rushing offenses in the Pac-12 and the FBS since 2018.
Entering the season, Kuithe ranks first among active FBS tight ends in career receptions (148) and receiving yards (1,882). He is also one of three active Power Five tight ends that have over 150 career rushing yards and one of two that have four or more rushing touchdowns.
The Katy, Texas, native is the only active three-time All-Pac-12 tight end with 51 career games and 26 starts to his name. He ranks in the top-10 all-time at Utah in career receptions (148), receiving yards (1,882) and receiving touchdowns (16).
He played in four games last season, missing most of the year due to injury, but ranked in the top-10 among tight ends in the FBS and Power Five in receiving touchdowns and yards at the time of his injury. In 2021, Kuithe ranked second among all Pac-12 tight ends in receiving touchdowns, finishing with a team-high six with a team-best 611 receiving yards (50 catches).
Kuithe has already received preseason recognition for 2023, earning preseason All-Pac-12 first-team and Athlon Sports preseason All-America.
