Utes in the Pros: Preseason begins with Hall of Fame Game

First chance to see Pro Utes in 2023 comes on Thursday night
SALT LAKE CITY – It's another sign that football season has arrived: the NFL's preseason Hall of Fame Game is set for Thursday night, with the Cleveland Browns taking on the New York Jets in Canton, Ohio. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. on NBC inside Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.
Rookie linebacker Mohamoud Diabate and offensive lineman Hunter Thedford will rep the Utes with Cleveland, while Javelin Guidry is on the Jets' active roster and Bradlee Anae is on IR.
In total, 26 players with Utah connections are currently on preseason on NFL rosters. Rookies include Braeden Daniels (Washington), Diabate, Dalton Kincaid (Buffalo) and Clark Phillips III (Atlanta). All will be battling for spots as teams trim their rosters to 53 players by August 29.
Kincaid's first round NFL Draft selection by Buffalo in April marked the first time in Utah history that the program has had first round picks in consecutive seasons—the tight end followed in the footsteps of linebacker Devin Lloyd, who was taken 27th overall by Jacksonville in the 2022 draft. Daniels and Phillips were fourth-rounders in 2023 and Diabate landed with the Browns as an undrafted free agent.
In addition, former Ute Alex Whittingham is back for his sixth season with the Kansas City Chiefs as defensive quality control coach.

The Utes will open 2023 at home, hosting the Florida Gators on Thursday, Aug. 31 in Rice-Eccles Stadium at 6 p.m. MT on ESPN. The game against the Gators will be a Red Out with fans encouraged to wear red.
