Recap in a Minute
The Utes are back on snow after a slate of races last week at Soldier Hollow, with competition taking place as part of the Westminster Invitational and the larger U.S. Cross Country Ski National Championships. Invitational results and team scores were pulled from U.S. Nationals, with the Utes leading the Westminster Invitational team standings.
Four total Utah podiums in 10K classic and freestyle sprints included a sprints victory for
Karianne Dengerud—her first collegiate win.
Sydney Palmer-Leger and Dengerud each were on the 10K classic collegiate podium with silver and bronze, respectively, while
Joe Davies made his Utah debut with silver in the men's 10K classic.
Utah capped the week with classic sprints on January 7, seeing another victory for Dengerud as well as the first for
Tom Mancini. The classic sprints were not part of an RMISA meet—so no team scores were kept—but individual results count toward qualification for the 2024 NCAA Championships.
In addition to the individual performances, Utah received both the overall and women's College Cup awards. The honor is presented to the top performing collegiate programs throughout U.S. Nationals.
Next Up
Following Saturday's classic pursuit races, the focus will turn to alpine competition with the Utes preparing for a busy week at the Utah Olympic Park in Park City, Utah. The team will race each day from Wednesday through Saturday, January 17-20, with the four days covering the alpine portions of both the Westminster Invitational and Utah Invitational.
The Nordic team will hit a break in the RMISA schedule after Saturday, with the squad set to resume on Friday, February 2 at the Colorado Invitational.
