Fano and Lomu Tabbed Midseason All-Americans

Pair of Utah offensive linemen recognized, with Freshman honors going to Lomu
SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah sophomore right tackle Spencer Fano and redshirt freshman left tackle Caleb Lomu collected national honors on Friday, as Fano was named to PFF's Midseason All-America team and Lomu was selected by The Athletic as a Midseason Freshman All-American.
Fano has started all six games at right tackle during the 2024 season, after being named to the Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Watch List. PFF gave Fano a 93.3 run-blocking grade, leading all other offensive tackles by nearly six points. PFF also has credited him with a nation-leading six big-time blocks, helping Fano to an overall grade of 91.4. He moved to right tackle this season, after Fano earned the starting left tackle spot as a true freshman in 2023. He has played in 19 career games with 18 starts (11 at LT, 7 at RT).
In his first season as a starter on the collegiate level, Lomu has slid in seamlessly at left tackle and started all six games for the Utes so far in 2024. The Arizona native has yet to allow a sack or commit a penalty. Lomu, who was named to the 2024 Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Watch List in the preseason, is trying to make it back-to-back years in which the Utes have had a Freshman All-American on the offensive line, as Fano earned that honor in 2023.
Long known as the O-Block for its physicality up front, the Utah offensive line combines for 270 games played entering Week 8, ranking 14th among Power Conference programs and third in the Big 12.
Fano and Lomu, together with the rest of the offensive line, have paved the way for running back Micah Bernard to rack up 676 yards on the ground, which puts him in the top 15 in the nation. Bernard's per-game average of 112.7 rushing yards also ranks 13th in FBS and fifth in the Big 12. Bernard has four games this season rushing for 100-plus yards.
