WHEN IT RAINS, IT POURS
Utah's season and home-opener vs. Alcorn State saw the team break the single-game record for most 3-pointers in a single game with 19 this past Monday. The Madsen brothers led the charge, combining to go 11-for-19 from long range with Gabe knocking down 6-of-10 while Mason drained 5-of-9 off the bench. Keanu Dawes, Miro Little and Mike Sharavjamts each chipped in with two apiece while Jake Wahlin gave Utah its 19th triple of the night with 2:55 left to play.
The 19 triples were also the most by any Big 12 opponent since Baylor hit 19 against Mississippi Valley State on Dec. 23, 2023. Through games on Nov. 5, the 19 made threes is tied for second-most in the NCAA behind the 22 from South Carolina State and Dartmouth.
START OF SOMETHING NEW
Utah sophomore Jake Wahlin made his first-career start in Monday's season-opener against Alcorn State and capitalized on the opportunity. The 6-10 forward filled up the stat sheeting scoring 7 points with 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals in just over 25 minutes of action.
CENTURY MARK
The Utes hit the century mark in its season-opener for the second-straight year after Joul Karram found a diving Ayomide Bamisile for the two-handed jam with 33 second left in the game. The last time Utah scored 100-plus points in its season-opener back-to-back years dated back to the 2012-13 and 2013-14 season.
In addition, it is also the second-straight year both the men's and women's programs have scored 100-plus points in their season-openers on the same day.
UP NEXT
The Utes wrap up their three-game homestand with Queens next Tuesday, Nov. 12, inside the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Chris Sylvester will have the call alongside former Runnin' Utes assistant coach Joe Cravens that night on ESPN+ as the Runnin' Utes and Royals square off for the first time in program history.
LOOKING AHEAD
Utah will get its first test against an opponent from a power conference the following Sunday on Nov. 17 in a neutral site match in Southaven, Miss., at the Landers Center – which is home to the NBA G League's Memphis Hustle. That game is set to tip off at 2 p.m. (MT) on ESPN2.
