SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah track & field team finished the BYU December Invite with a fury, winning a trio of events as well as strong showings from the freshmen class on Thursday at Smith Fieldhouse.
Â
Bailey Kealamakia and
Lela Divinity got the day going for Utah in the 60m hurdles with both advancing to the finals with runs of 9.09 (aa) and 9.17 (aa), respectively, before finishing sixth and eighth-overall.
Â
Things heated up in the 60m dash for Utah with the trio of
Megan Rose,
Chelsea Amoah and
Matejah Mangum sweeping the podium in both the prelims and finals – all the while inserting themselves into the all-time record books.
Â
Rose first posted a PR run of 7.42 (aa) in the prelims to improve her hold in the record books (2nd) before finishing with a run of 7.46 (aa) in the finals to capture the win. Amoah's first event as a collegian saw her record a 7.54 (aa), which would've been good for fourth all-time but the freshmen had a lot left in the tank to run a 7.48 (aa) in the finals to not only take second-overall but move into third all-time. Mangum solidified the podium sweep for Utah in the finals when she edged out BYU's Sami Oblad for third with a mark of 7.56 (aa) – which is good for sixth all-time.
Â
J'neya Hill and
Chloe Shewell both recorded new personal best marks in the 60m prelims for their respective heats with Hill posting a 7.82 (aa) while Shewell recorded a time of 7.83 (aa).
Millie Wilcox kept the party going for Utah in the mile race, winning the whole thing with a run of 4:52.71 (aa) behind a negative split of 54.60 in her final lap.
Â
Utah's 4x400m relay put a bow on the end of the day when the team of Divinity, Hill,
Shana Van Elderen and Rose combined to win the event with a run of 3:50.47 (aa).
Â
On Wednesday, Van Elderen was Utah's lone competitor for the day and finished fourth-overall in the long jump with a PR leap of 5.47m (17-11.25).
Â
