BOZEMAN, Mont. –
Joe Davies of the Utah Ski Team had his second straight podium with a second-place finish in the men's 20K classic, leading the Utes on the final day of the 2024 RMISA Championships at Crosscut Mountain Sports Center.
Utah trailed Colorado entering the final day of the meet and gave the Buffaloes a good battle today, but ultimately finished second in the meet standings. Over the three-day meet the Utes tallied 589.5 points, short of only CU (671).
"We gave it everything and skied great," said head Nordic coach
Miles Havlick, "but CU was a tough opponent this weekend. Our men skied very well despite some very warm and windy conditions. We are still battling through some injuries and illness on the women's side, so we will take advantage of the next 10 days to get healthy and regroup for the NCAA Championships."
Davies clocked a 55:48.9 in the mass start, with Denver's Andreas Kirkeng picking up the win.
Tom Mancini (56:45.5) placed fifth and
Brian Bushey (57:34.1) was ninth.
Walker Hall was just one spot out of the top-10 with a time of 58:18.7. The men's trio of Davies, Mancini and Bushey combined for 88 points, leading the field.
The Utah women were led by
Sydney Palmer-Leger with a sixth-place performance (1:15:18.1).
Witta Walcher earned her third top-10 in her last four starts with a 1:15:28.8, good for ninth in the race.
Utah combined for 191 points across the men's Nordic races, leading all teams. Throughout the three-day meet the Utes had 358 points from the men's Nordic and alpine races, the most in the field.
