SALT LAKE CITY –
Kaja Norbye of the Utah Ski Team has been named RMISA Women's Slalom MVP, the conference officially announced on Monday. The award is presented annually to the skier who totals the most NCAA qualification points in each discipline and for each gender.
Norbye, a junior from Oslo, Norway, has earned three wins and six podiums this year—all in slalom. She won gold in the discipline at the Utah Invitational, Denver Invitational and capped off the RMISA Championships with a top result at Big Sky Resort. The latter doubled as the NCAA West Regional Championship.
Each of her six other starts this year, in giant slalom, have netted at least a top-10 finish, including three top-fives.
She was limited to six starts as a sophomore in 2023, but had a giant slalom win early in the season plus three top-15 results in slalom. Norbye also raced on the Nor-Am Cup circuit.
Norbye had an outstanding freshman campaign in '22 capped off with NCAA First Team All-America honors in giant slalom. When the Utes hosted the NCAA Championships that year in Park City, Utah, Norbye placed fifth in GS and sixth in slalom.
Coming off her first year with the program, Norbye also was named All-RMISA Second Team and received the Utah Ski Team's Toril Forland Award, presented annually to the program's outstanding female skier.
