SALT LAKE CITY –
Karlie Davison drilled her second home run of the season, but the University of Utah softball team dropped a 5-1 decision to the No. 24 Oregon Ducks on Sunday afternoon in Pac-12 Conference action at Dumke Family Softball Stadium in Salt Lake City.
Utah now sits at 15-11 on the season and 1-5 in Pac-12 play, while the Ducks are 16-10 and 4-2 in conference.
It was Davison who broke the ice in the bottom of the second, when she sent a 2-1 offering over the wall in left-center to stake Utah to a 1-0 lead.
Unfortunately for the home side, that lead was quickly erased by a four-run Oregon third that included three-run Ariel Carlson homer and put Utah in a 4-1 hole.
The Utes tried multiple times to stage rallies that would reduce the deficit, moving runners in scoring position in the third and fifth innings, but both opportunities failed to result in runs. The Ducks recorded the last six outs in order to close out the series.
