Mariah Lopez Takes Home Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week Honors

Lopez collects third career pitcher of the week award
SAN FRANCISCO – For the second straight week, a member of the University of Utah softball team has earned one of the Pac-12's weekly awards and this time its Mariah Lopez, who was named the Pac-12's Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
Lopez started three of Utah's four games last week and won all three, starting with four shutout innings of three-hit ball against Weber State on Wednesday that also saw the senior southpaw strikeout out eight against no walks. On Friday, Lopez held Arizona State to a single earned run over six innings in a 9-3 Utah victory, but she was at her best on Sunday. The Arizona native tossed a complete-game shutout, limiting the Sun Devils to three hits and one walk with seven punchouts en route to her 15th win of the season, a total that has her tied for second in the conference.
For the week, Lopez pitched to a 0.41 ERA across 17 innings, held the opposition to a .175 average and piled up 20 strikeouts.
This is Lopez's third career Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week award after she claimed two last season. She's the first Utah pitcher ever to claim at least one Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week award in two different campaigns.
