SALT LAKE CITY – For the second consecutive season, the University of Utah softball team had multiple student-athletes land on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, as
Haley Denning and
Sarah Ladd were both among the selections when the CSC released its annual list on Tuesday.
This makes back-to-back seasons on the academic all-district roster for Denning, who can add it to a list of 2024 accomplishments that already includes All-Pac-12 First-Team and All-Pacific Region First-Team accolades. During her final season with the Utes, the Phoenix native broke the school records for career batting average, hits, runs and at-bats, finished in the top 10 in the conference in hits, steals and batting average and crafted a 3.804 GPA while majoring in Emergency Management.
Ladd doubled her win total from her first year at Utah, piling up 10 victories, including Utah's last two wins of 2024. The first of those was a 6 1/3 inning masterpiece against No. 8 Stanford at the Pac-12 Tournament in which she didn't permit an earned run, followed by six shutout frames in an NCAA Tournament triumph over Morgan State. She also tossed the ninth perfect game in program history on March 6 against Utah Tech. Ladd's work in the classroom saw her put up a 3.623 GPA as she pursued a degree in Health, Society and Policy.
Denning and Ladd now advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot, with those award recipients being announced in June.
