SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah softball coach
Amy Hogue announced the newest addition to her team's roster on Friday in 2024 All-WAC First-Team selection Kayla Lyon, who joins the Utes after two seasons with California Baptist University.
"We are excited to add Kayla's talent to our roster," said Hogue. "She will make an immediate impact on our offensive lineup and significantly contribute to our team culture.
"Kayla is a team-first player who will thrive on the field and make everyone around her better. She has a high ceiling, and we can't wait to see her reach her full potential as a Ute!"
Lyon comes to Utah after a breakout sophomore season in which she hit .393 with nine homers and 44 RBIs and finished in the top 10 in her conference in five different statistics. One of those categories was slugging percentage, where she ended the season at .694, her league's second-best mark, as nearly half of her 68 hits went for extra bases. Her efforts also earned her two WAC Player of the Week awards and helped the Lancers go 33-25 in 2024 with a conference record of 17-7. Both of those represented the best marks the program has achieved since 2018.
Lyon is originally a native of Corona, California and attended Eleanor Roosevelt High School, where her play garnered her an All-American selection from Extra Innings and she helped lead her squad to multiple league championships.
