SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Volleyball remains unbeaten on day two of the Utah Classic, defeating in-state rival Utah State, 3-1 (29-31, 25-15, 25-23, 25-12).
Utah was battle-tested early in the first set, trailing the Aggies by six, 19-13. The Utes sparked a three-point run, ignited by
Rianne Vos, cutting the Utah State lead down, 20-16. Back-to-back aces provided by
Kamryn Gibadlo brought Utah to within two, 21-19. After a block by
Allie Olsen gave Utah the serve, the Utes tied things up for the first time, 21-21, before
Levani Key-Powell posted her first kill of the match.
With Utah State on the verge of set point, 24-22, Utah stormed back to extend the set with a 3-0 run. Vos sparked another Utah rally, giving the Utes their first lead of the match, 25-24. A back-and-forth between the two sides saw three ties down the stretch coming at 27, 28 and 29 over the final few points before the Aggies took the win.
The Utes would dominate in the second set, opening on a 4-2 run. Utah found one of its biggest leads midway through the set, 13-7, closing out a four-point run. The largest Utah lead came as the Utes closed out the set, securing a 10-point advantage, 25-15. The Utes would only trail after the opening point of the set, which was awarded to the Aggies after a delay of game was called on Utah coming out of the break.
Utah continued to dominate in the third set, taking 4-1 lead, coming off the block from
Lauren Jardine. After Utah State put together a three-point run, regaining the advantage, 14-11, Gibadlo stopped the Aggie offense with a kill to bring the serve back to the Utes. With a string of attack errors by the Aggie offense, giving Utah a three-point run, the Utes captured an 18-17 advantage. Gibadlo put away the final kill of the third set for the Utes, sealing the 25-23 set win.
Utah controlled the fourth and final set from start to finish, holding the Aggies to a .000 hitting percentage. The Utes found themselves ahead, 15-6, after back-to-back kills from Gibadlo, helping along a Utah four-point run. Utah continued to apply pressure down the stretch, extending the lead and going up by 13, 24-11. Putting the final kill of the match down, Vos sealed the win for the Utes with her 14
th of the match and breaking her single-match career-high which previously stood at 13.
Standout Stats
- Rianne Vos broke her single-match kill personal best, putting down 14 on 20 swings without an error, hitting .700.
- Emrie Satuala was in on a career-high 11 blocks, adding eight kills to her total.
- Vos (14) and Kamryn Gibadlo (12) were the team leaders in kills, each finishing in double figures.
- The dual-threat at setter provided a well-balanced system for the Utes with Grace Hammond and Isabelle Marco providing 23 assists each.
- Vanessa Ramirez tallied a season-high 20 digs, adding two service aces to her tally.
- Three Utes recorded multiple aces on the evening including Ramirez, Gibadlo and Levani Key-Powell.

The Utes will bring the Utah Classic to a close, taking on Green Bay, on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 12:30 p.m. MT. Utah Volleyball will return to the Huntsman Center to close out its non-conference homestand against California and Purdue. The Utes will take on former Pac-12 foe California on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. MT. Returning to action on Friday, Sept. 6, Utah will take on #8 Purdue at 7 p.m. MT. Both matches will be available on ESPN+.
