Utes notch largest margin of victory against a ranked team since 2015
SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah football team throttled No. 21 Arizona State 42-10 on a rain-soaked, storm-delayed night in front of 51,444 fans at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Saturday.
The Utes improved to 5-1 and 2-1 in Big 12 Conference play with their first victory over a ranked opponent in 2025, while the Sun Devils fell to 4-2 and 2-1 in conference games. Utah's 32-point win marked the program's largest margin of victory over a ranked team since a 62-20 win over then-No. 13 Oregon in Eugene in 2015.
Utah was dominant in the ground game, rushing for 276 yards - the most the Utes have gained on the ground in a Big 12 game since joining the league in 2024 - and averaging 6.6 yards per carry. The Utes were able to use explosive plays to their advantage, tallying 11 rushes of 10 or more yards, while all six of Utah's touchdowns on the night came on the ground.
Utah's six rushing touchdowns in a game tie for the fifth-most in program history - matching the most recent total in a contest at Stanford in 2021. It is also the most rushing touchdowns scored by the Utes against an opponent ranked in the AP Top 25.
Devon Dampier led the rushing attack, tallying 10 carries for a season-high 120 yards and matched his career high with three rushing touchdowns in just three quarters of action. NaQuari Rogers added 48 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries, while Wayshawn Parker rushed 12 times for 48 yards and Daniel Bray added 41 yards on five carries. Byrd Ficklin also tallied a score on his lone carry of the night.
Dampier also completed 7-of-12 passes for 104 yards and no interceptions.
Utah needed just 55 plays to put up 412 yards of total offense, averaging 7.5 yards per play. The Utes converted on 4-of-8 third-down tries and both of their fourth-down chances, finding the end zone on all four trips to the red zone.
Defensively, Utah held Arizona State to just 259 yards of total offense and only 3.3 yards per play. The Utes held the ASU rushing attack, which averaged 215.4 yards per game entering the night, to 135 yards on 40 carries. Utah tallied five sacks, seven TFL and limited the Sun Devils to just 7-of-18 on third down.
Utah has now rushed for more yards than its opponent has gained total yards in four of six outings so far this season.
Utah also shut down the Sun Devil passing attack, holding the visitors to just 124 yards while limiting ASU signal-callers to completions on just 18 of 38 attempts. The Utah secondary has now held back-to-back opponents to a completion percentage under 50% and has held four of six opponents to 50% or worse.
Jackson Bennee led the Utah defense with eight tackles to go along with a blocked field goal, the second blocked kick of his career. Logan Fano, Smith Snowden and Lander Barton all logged six tackles, with Fano adding a sack and Snowden recording a pair of pass break-ups. John Henry Daley, who entered the week tied for third nationally with 6.5 sacks, added another 1.5 to his ledger and led the Utes with 2.5 TFL.

The Utes return to action on Saturday, Oct. 18, when they head south to take on the 18th-ranked BYU Cougars (6-0, 3-0 Big 12) in Provo. The game is set to air on FOX with kickoff at 6 p.m. MT.
