ATLANTA, Ga. — The No. 9-ranked University of Utah Golf team completed its final round of the fall season, fighting hard on a cold and windy Sunday at the Golf Club of Georgia Invitational.
Facing tough conditions, the Utes finished day three of the tournament with a score of 4-over 292 with two of its five playing shooting individual rounds under par.
With a three-day total of seven-over 871, Utah finishes the Invitational in 11
th place, 24 strokes behind the tournament's champion, the Virginia Cavaliers (-17).
The Utes' top individual finish came from a familiar face in No. 3 ranked
Gabriel Palacios, who carded a final round of 2-under 70 to secure his fourth consecutive top 10.
With a three-day score of 5-under 211 (70-71-70), Palacios' consistency earned him a tie for sixth place at the tournament. Moreover, with another three rounds under par, the junior's scoring average currently sits at 69.6 (not adj.) through 12 rounds. The mark qualifies for the lowest scoring average (min. 10 rounds) in Utah golf program history, though the season is still in progress.
Sergio Jimenez secured Utah a second top 20 finish with a 1-under 215.
The junior from Spain was one of 20 players to end the tournament under-par or better, finishing tied for 18
th with two competitors.
Senior
Davis Johnson accounted for Utah's best day-three performance with a 3-under 69. The Arizona native's final round was a 9-stroke improvement over his Saturday round and included a fiery 5-under 31 scoring effort on the back nine. With the sharp performance, Johnson rose 22 places in the final standings, finishing tied for 35
th place.
Brandon Robison finished the tournament tied for 62
nd place (12-over 228). Freshman
Kade McDonough ended the weekend in a tied 73
rd place with a final score of 20-over 236.
