TEMPE, Ariz. – Utah Volleyball ended their time in Arizona with a quick three-set loss to No. 8 Arizona State.
The Utes had moments where they pushed the Sun Devils to the max but ultimately didn't have enough juice to pull off the upset, falling to ASU 0-3 (25-16, 25-15, 25-16).
SET ONE
ASU started off fast with a 4-1 advantage, but Utah clawed their way back, tying the first set 5-5 partially due to two back-to-back kills from Arizona freshman
Devyn Wiest.
The Sun Devils built a little cushion before another Arizona native,
Kamryn Gibadlo hit a kill to tie the set back up at 10.
Â
Despite tying the game five times, the Utes were never able to gain the lead and fell to ASU 25-16 in the first set.
SET TWO
Utah got within one of ASU, 6-5, early in the second set, but errant serve opportunities plagued the Utes when it came time to taking a lead.
Â
Unfortunately for the Utes, the Sun Devils put the pedal to the medal and ran away with set two, 25-15.
SET THREE
The Utes took their first lead of the entire match over ASU early in the third set, 4-3.
Â
From there, the third set went into an intense back-and-forth between Utah and the Sun Devils with eight ties and five lead changes taking place before Arizona State pulled away for the match winning third and final set score, 25-16.
