SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah swim and dive team is aiming to divide and achieve qualifying times and scores for the upcoming post-season meets. Eleven swimmers make their way to UNLV's First Chance Meet, while the divers compete in UCLA's Last Chance Meet with both competitions beginning on Friday.

Landon Nava,
Nathan Decker,
Gannon Flynn, and
Will Woodall are showing face for the men's side.
"We're excited that these 11 swimmers get a last chance to race this season to put up some competitive and fast times," said head coach
Jonas Persson.
The Utah swimmers attending this meet will be tapered and suited up, meaning they will be trained but rested and racing to beat their current season and personal bests.
In Their Lane
- Cameron will be looking to break the five personal bests he earned at the Art Adamson Invitational in November. His current 500-yard freestyle time-to-beat is 4:32.44 and his 200-free is sitting at 1:37.66.
- Decker's season-best 100-yard backstroke came in the dual meet with rival BYU, touching the wall at 49.68. In the 200-back, the freshman reached a season-best at the Art Adamson Invitational with a time of 1:46.93.
- At the TYR Colorado Mesa Invitational, Flynn found two personal bests, in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke. The times he will be trying to beat are 55.44 in the 100-breast and 1:59.62 in the 200-breast.
- Kehler will be looking to achieve a new personal best in the freestyle, butterfly and backstroke events. At Pac-12 Championships in March of 2024, the junior earned a new PB in the 100-back with a 48.09. At the same meet, his 100-fly improved to 47.89.
- At the Toyota U.S. Open, Nava found a new time for his 100-yard butterfly, with 51.00. At his conference meet in 2024, the sophomore earned three new career best times, in both the 100 and 200 breast and the 200-IM.
- Sealman's best time came at the Art Adamson Invitational, his 200-yard breaststroke clocked in at 54.80. His 200-breast time hasn't been beat since his 2022 performance at the Speedo Sectionals in Austin, where he touched the wall at 2:07.61.
- At the Art Adamson Invitational, Stachelek refreshed his career 50-freestyle time with 20.18. His best 100-freestyle time occurred at the Pac-12 Championships in 2024, where he swam 43.81.
- Another sprinter, Woodall will be looking to beat his 50-free, 100-free and 200-freestyle times. He earned a new 200-free time in November at the Art Adamson Invitational, where he swam a 1:40.12, but he hasn't been able to beat his 50- or 100-free times since conference of 2024.
The divers are making their way to the Golden State, yet again, but this time heading south to UCLA. The six Utes attending the invitational, will be competing platform, hoping to earn the NCAA Zones qualifying score. They will be facing off with UCLA, Cal and USC.
"We're just looking to stay sharp on tower this weekend, so we are physically ready for Big 12's and zones," said head diving coach
Richard Marschner. "Doing meets back-to-back is a great opportunity to get some 10-meter reps while competing in a meet situation."
(In the) Diving Well
- Callie Eaglestone will be looking to earn her place on tower at zones. The freshman has already reached her 1m and 3m qualifying cuts, so a score of 225 or higher on platform will seal the opportunity to qualify for NCAAs on all three boards.
- Freshman Attila Bernatsky is looking to earn his platform zones cut, needing to reach a score of 300. At the Cal Diving Invitational, Bernatsky reached a total of 296.15, missing the cut by less than four points.
- Sydney Kowalski earned her 3m zones cut during the dual meet against BYU, earning the senior her first springboard appearance at the NCAA qualifying meet. Kowalski has been close to earning the tower score, but has yet to cross that threshold. At the Auburn Diving Invite, Kowalski finished with 224.80, only 0.20 away from adding platform to her zones schedule.
- Jesco Helling, Kathryn Grant and Holly Waxman have already earned the three qualifying cuts for zones, so they will be competing for extra practice in the competitive tower atmosphere.
"The results aren't as important as just getting the practice in, but I'm optimistic we'll add some events to our zones schedule," said Marschner.
