Utah Battles in 4-2 Loss to No. 23 Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. – The University of Utah women's tennis team battled in a 4-2 loss to No. 23 Arizona State with Sara Akid and Hayley Roberts both picking up singles wins. Utah is now 5-5 overall on the season and are 0-1 in Big 12 action.Â
DOUBLES
Arizona State got the jump on Utah by capturing the doubles point. The Sun Devils picked up wins in the No. 2 and No. 1 doubles spots to claim the point advantage. Utah duo Dylan Lolofie and Samantha Horwood were up 5-3 in their match before it went abandoned.
SINGLESÂ
ASU started singles with a win at the No. 1 spot. Utah then found some momentum in singles action with Hayley Roberts picking up a 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 win at the No. 4 spot ofer ASU's Karin Altori. The Sun Devils then came out with a win at No. 2 to give ASU a 3-1 advantage over Utah.Â
Sara Akid came up big with a 7-6 (2), 2-6, 6-3 win at No. 3 over Lily Taylor to narrow the overall match score gap. Arizona State clinched the win at the No. 6 spot. Dylan Lolofie was in her third set before her match was abandoned.Â
UP NEXT
The Utes will continue Big 12 action in Tucson, Ariz. to take on No. 26 Arizona Saturday, March 1. Utah returns to Salt Lake City to host Texas Tech March 6 before hosting Colorado March 8.
