Utah’s record reaches 10-4
STANFORD, Calif. – The University of Utah beach volleyball team earned their 10th victory of the season on Friday by topping the Saint Mary's Gaels, 4-1, in a match that included a pair of dramatic third sets, before suffering a 5-0 defeat at the hands of the No. 5 Stanford Cardinal at the Stanford Beach Volleyball Stadium in Stanford, Calif.
Utah's 2025 record now stands at 10-4, the quickest they've ever reached 10 victories in program history.
Utah vs. Saint Mary's
The Utes were the first team to claim a point and it came thanks to Langley Griffin and Bella Vezzani in the second flight, who continued their strong play in 2025 with a 21-15, 21-16 victory. Sonja Wessel and Maeve Griffin then scored a sweep of their own at No. 4, 21-19, 21-17.
The Gaels were able to come away with a win in the top spot, but in the No. 5 match, Lauren Sayre and Elle Burleson outlasted their opponents across three sets to triumph 21-17, 19-21, 15-10. The final act came at No. 3, where Kylie Pitzak and Ellyn Collins battled back after dropping the first frame for a 15-21, 21-19, 15-13 final.
The Utes are now 14-4 in 2025 in three-set matches.

Unfortunately for the Utes, they could not find the same success against the Cardinal. Stanford won all five matches to hand Utah just its fourth defeat of the season.
