SCOUTING OKLAHOMA STATE
Ranked No. 20 nationally, Oklahoma State enters Thursday's match with a 14-6 overall record and an 8-1 mark in Big 12 play. The Cowgirls are riding a seven-match win streak. Utah has faced Oklahoma State just twice in program history, with the Cowgirls winning both contests. The last meeting came in February 2010, a narrow 4-3 victory for Oklahoma State.
SCOUTING KANSAS STATE
Kansas State holds a 7-9 overall record and sits at 4-5 in Big 12 action, entering Saturday's match on a three-match losing skid. The Wildcats lead the all-time series 3-1, but the Utes claimed a convincing 6-1 win in their most recent meeting back in February 2008.
THE UTES
The Utah women's tennis program competes this season with a roster featuring a core group of returning players blended with new talent. Returning to the team are sophomores Sara Akid and
Emma Kamper, junior
Kaila Barksdale, and senior
Samantha Horwood, all of whom contributed significantly during the 2024 season. Joining the squad this season are two transfers in
Dylan Lolofie, a Salt Lake City native from Weber State, and
Emma Valletta from Ravena, Italy, previously at VCU. This spring, the team additionally welcomed freshman
Hayley Roberts from Bradenton, Florida.
LAST TIME OUT
Utah came up just short in a tightly contested 4-3 loss to Iowa State on Saturday in Salt Lake City. The Utes opened strong, securing the doubles point with 6-3 wins on courts one and two.
Emma Kamper led the way for Utah, earning victories in both doubles and singles. She and Hayley Roberts took care of business at No. 1 doubles, and Kamper followed up with a 7-6 (4), 6-1 win at the top singles spot. Kaila Barksdale added a three-set victory at No. 3 to even the match at 3-3, but the Cyclones clinched it with a win in a decisive three-setter on court four.
HEAD COACH RUTH ANN ALLEN
The Utah women's tennis team welcomed
Ruth Ann Allen as head coach this season. A Utah native and a Utah All-American and Hall of Famer, Allen returns to lead the program after a successful tenure as head coach at Weber State. She guided the Wildcats to a Big Sky Championship in 2023 and was twice named Big Sky Coach of the Year (2022, 2023).
Before Weber State, Allen spent 20 seasons as an assistant coach at Utah, where she helped the Utes secure multiple NCAA Tournament bids, two Mountain West Conference titles, and numerous top-five regional rankings. Allen, an All-American during her playing career at Utah, was inducted into the Utah Tennis Association Hall of Fame in 2023.
NEXT UP
The Utes return to Salt Lake City to close out the regular season at home, hosting Houston on April 10 and UCF on April 12 at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center.
