SALT LAKE CITY –
Reese Lee collected two hits, including a two-run triple, but the University of Utah softball team dropped a 7-2 decision to the Arizona State Sun Devils on Friday evening in Big 12 Conference action at Dumke Family Softball Stadium in Salt Lake City.
Utah is now 12-28 in 2025 and 4-9 in conference.
The game's first run came across in the top of the second, when ASU used a walk, a sacrifice and a Samantha Swan single to take a 1-0 edge. The Sun Devils tried to add another when the next batter lined a single into left, but a perfect throw from left fielder
Shelbi Ortiz cut down the runner at the plate to end the frame.
Utah leapfrogged into the lead in the bottom of the stanza, which included infield singles off the bat of
Jolie Mayfield and
Hailee White. With two outs, Lee laced a triple into the gap in left-center for a 2-1 Ute advantage.
ASU quickly erased that slim margin with a run in the third and the score remained frozen for the next two innings, but a five-run rally by the visitors created a deficit the Utes could not overcome.

Utah and ASU will return to action at Dumke at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
