Utah Drops Heartbreaker to BYU, 14-13

White slugs first two collegiate homers, drives in five
PROVO, Utah – Hailee White blasted two home runs and drove in a career-high five runs, but the University of Utah softball team suffered a heartbreaking defeat in extra innings to the BYU Cougars, falling 14-13, on Thursday evening in Big 12 Conference action at Gail Miller Field in Provo, Utah.
The Utes are now 12-32 on the season and 4-12 in league competition.
Both offenses proved unstoppable throughout the evening, with an Emily Capobianco two-run double starting the scoring in the top of the first, only for the home team to answer with three more in their half of the frame.
Each side added another in the second, but in the fifth, Utah put up a five spot, fueled by a pinch-hit two-run double off the bat of Kendall Lundberg and White's first long ball of the night, a two-run round-tripper to left-center.
The Cougars quickly cut Utah's advantage to 8-7 before the Utes tacked on an insurance run the fifth, then Shonty Passi launched a three-run bomb in the sixth to boost Utah's lead to 12-7. BYU sliced that margin to 12-9 before White homered again in the seventh.
Unfortunately for the visitors, their lead proved insufficient, as four Cougar runs in the seventh and one more in the eighth brought the game to an end.
White's five RBIs match the most by a Utah player in a single game in 2025, as Jolie Mayfield knocked in five runs at Arizona on March 15.
