EUGENE, Ore. – The Utah track & field team had a solid start to the weekend at Hayward Field, claiming two event victories on top of eight new PRs on Friday for the Oregon Team Open portion of the weekend.
Sona Kourilova opened the day of competition for Utah in the 3000m steeplechase by finishing second-overall with a PR run of 10:19.36 – which improved her hold on the No. 3 spot in the record book.
Grace Moroney followed in the fastest heat of the 1500m run with a PR mark of her own after crossing the finish line at 4:20.70 for fifth-overall.
Emily Martin served up Utah's first event victory of the day in the 100m dash when she sprinted 11.54. The junior battled down the final 20m to pass Texas A&M's Bria Bullard. In the 800m run,
Annie Ivins picked up a top-5 finish after she finished at 2:10.26.
Bailey Kealamakia placed third in the 400m hurdles later, posting a season-best mark of 59.81 while freshman
Lela Divinity nearly shaved off two seconds off of her PR with a time of 1:01.53 – which was good for eighth-overall.
Freshman
Chelsea Amoah continued to a have a great first-year, winning the 200m dash with a PR time of 23.46 and improved her hold on the No. 2 time at Utah. Teammates
Megan Rose and
Rachel Bair both crossed the finish line at the same time for 10th-overall when they ran 25.36 (25.358).
Utah's 5000m crew finished one right after the other the whole way through and claimed No. 2 through No. 6 to wrap up the first day of competition. Senior
Morgan Jensen led the way with a runner-up finish that was fueled by her 22 second PR mark of 16:04.23 to move into eighth all-time.
Teammate
Anna Peters was right behind her in third with a new personal best time of 16:06.83 before
Clara Mayfield claimed fourth with a PB run of her own (16:16.86).
Emily Chaston was the fourth Ute to run a new PR in the 5k, finishing with a mark of 16:27.72 to best her previous time by 10 seconds.
Kylie Hartnett (16:50.62) rounded out the top-6 finish for Utah.
