PROVO, Utah – The University of Utah softball team was defeated by score of 14-5 on Saturday afternoon by the BYU Cougars in Big 12 Conference action at Gail Miller Field in Provo, Utah.
Utah falls to 12-34 and 4-14 in conference.
For the third straight day, the Utes got on the scoreboard in the first inning, this time thanks to a
Shonty Passi RBI single. The Cougars were able to tie the score with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame.
In the fourth, Utah staged another rally, which started with a
Kaylah Nelsen hit and a hit batter, bringing up
Emily Capobianco with one out. The Utes' designated player then launched a three-run homer to left, her sixth of the year, which ties for team-high.
Unfortunately for the visitors, BYU took their first lead of the day with a nine-run uprising and the 10-4 deficit was too much for Utah to overcome. The Utes plated one run on an error in the fifth, but two Cougar runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth ended the game.
