Utes’ first set win not enough to beat the Huskers
LINCOLN, Nebr. – The No. 22 Utah Volleyball team is 5-2 on the 2025 season after coming up short (1-3) against No. 1 Nebraska in the Husker Invitational.
The Utes got off to a hot start in set one (25-21) putting Nebraska on their heels, but couldn't piece together more set wins after, losing three straight (25-8, 25-18, 25-13), resulting in their second loss of the year.
SET ONE
Utah started fast, getting out to a 4-1 advantage off two Kamryn Gibadlo kills. However, Nebraska did not go away quietly, tying the set 7-7.
The Utes were determined though, and pulled ahead 15-9 after freshman Allie Grossenbach recorded a service ace. Senior Emrie Moea'i added her own kill later in the set to make it 23-19 for the Utes before Gibadlo hit the kill to bring up set point. A Moea'i block made it a 25-21 set win for Utah.
SET TWO
Nebraska came roaring back in set two with a 25-8 advantage over the Utes.
SET THREE
Nebraska jumped out to a 4-1 lead, but the Utes adjusted and stayed within two points of the Huskers up until the score reached 8-6.
Moea'i slammed a kill that set up a 6-0 run that got the Utes within five, 19-14, but despite the effort to claw back into the game, Huskers took the third set, 25-18.
SET FOUR
Set four started close, tying early at 4-4. The Utes continued to stay within two of the Huskers up until Nebraska moved ahead 9-6.
Utah made efforts to inch back into the game, but Nebraska ended up walking away with the set and match win, 25-13.
STANDOUT STATS
The Utes wrap up their time in Lincoln for the Husker Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 13 against Drake with first serve set for 12 p.m. MT.

- Utes Total Stats: 34 kills, three service aces, five blocks, 44 digs.
- Gibadlo led the Utes in kills (11) and total attempts (39).
- Moea'i recorded the best hitting percentage for the Utes (.304), came second in kills (9), and led in blocks (5).
- Leah Wilton-LaBoy led in digs and set a season-high (14) while Levani Key-Powell came second on the team (12).
