THIS WEEK
After falling short of expectations in its spring opener at the Southwestern Invitational, No. 23 Utah Golf is ready for a bounce-back performance to defend its title at the 49
th annual John A. Burns Intercollegiate this weekend.
The Utes return to work in Lihu'a, Kaua'i with the hopes of exorcising some golf demons while holding on to their
team title and individual title (junior Gabriel Palacios) they earned at the tournament just a season ago.
Junior
Sergio Jimenez fared the best of the Utes competing at the Southwestern in January, shooting a 4-over 74 in the final round of play and tallying a three-day total of 5-over 214 for a 20
th place individual finish. Jimenez currently ranks No.73 in the latest Scoreboard rankings.
Senior
Davis Johnson was the second-highest finisher for Utah in their spring opener tying 32
nd overall at the Southwestern and posting a three-day total of 9-over 219. Johnson sits as the No. 72 ranked player in the country.
Senior
Brandon Robison had the third-best three-day score, going 11-over 221 for a 30
th-place tie.
Mid-year transfer
Jack Jerge showed promise down the stretch for the Utes, rounding out Utah's top four scores on the team with a 16-over 226 three-day count and a tie for 57
th place at the Southwestern.
While the Southwestern was not his best showing, junior
Gabriel Palacios still sits as Utah's highest-ranked athlete in the latest Scoreboard rankings at No. 13 in the country. The Guatemalan native finished his time in California last month tied for 61
st place at the Southwestern Invitational.
Last season, John Burns marked the start of a tremendous month-long run for Palacios winning
back-to-back Big 12 Golfer of the Month awards in March and April and a second individual title at the Goodwin.

COACHES THOUGHTS
On bouncing back after a disappointing showing at the Southwestern Invitational…
"After the Southwestern, we came home and fortunately had an opportunity to get out on the course to qualify/compete some more. The guys struggled to execute key golf shots in California last month, and it was great to get on the course and work on that this past week. I'm excited about the sense of urgency our team has shown in practices. It is clear they were not happy about what happened at the Southwestern and have been working very hard to turn things around this week at John Burns. We will be battling a lot of wind and rain—it will be a tough week, which I hope will play into our favor. I'm excited to see how we compete this week."
