Gomez drives in two, logs three hits in 8-7 loss
Utah's 2026 record now stands at 8-3.
Gomez made her first mark on the game in the opening inning with an RBI single that plated Hailee White to open the scoring, but the Wildcats answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame.
Utah responded in the second by putting runners on second and third and an RBI knock by Danika Wilson followed by a White sacrifice fly allowed the Utes to leap back in front. Unfortunately for Utah, that lead was erased in the bottom half thanks to an Aysiah Gonzalez three-run double, making the score 5-3.
The teams traded runs in the fourth and Bethune-Cookman stretched their lead to 8-4 by adding a pair in the fifth. The best chance Utah had to erase the deficit came in the sixth, when Gomez doubled in another run and back-to-back walks loaded the bases with two outs. Two more free passes pushed across the runs that brought the Utes to within one, but the tying run never came across and a scoreless seventh brought the game to an end.
