Utes Drop Series Opener to No. 1 Texas Tech

Proctor homers in 10-2 defeat
SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah softball team fell by a score of 10-2 to the No. 1 Texas Tech Red Raiders on Friday evening in Big 12 Conference action at Dumke Family Softball Stadium in Salt Lake City.
The Utes now stand at 26-14-1 and 4-8-1 in Big 12 play in 2026.
The Red Raiders got on the board thanks to an unearned run in the first and they added three more in the fourth courtesy of an RBI single by Kaitlyn Terry and homers from Mia Williams and Jackie Lis.
TTU tacked on one more in the fifth and pushed their advantage to 9-0 with a three-run sixth that included a Nijaree Canady RBI double and a Mihyia Davis two-run homer.
Kennedy Proctor got Utah on the board in their half of the sixth when, after a Mia Gomez walk, she belted two-run tater to right-center. This represented her ninth home run of the season, tying Gomez for the most on the roster. Unfortunately for the Utes, the Red Raiders prevented the Utes from creeping any closer before the final out was recorded.
