Utah Falls 4-3 to Baylor After Late Singles Push

WACO, Texas— The No. 30-ranked Utah Utes fell 4-3 to the No. 38-ranked Baylor Bears Saturday afternoon after a late singles push ties the overall match 3-3.

The Utes are now 15-6 on the season and 8-3 in Big 12 action.

DOUBLES
In doubles action, the Utah Utes got off to a hot start with Utah's No.69-ranked Sara Akid and Emma Valletta capturing a 6-3 win at the No. 1 spot against Baylor's Zuzanna Kubacha and Gabrielle Villegas.

Baylor responded with two wins at the No. 3 and No. 2 spot to clinch the doubles point advantage.

SINGLES
In singles play, Utah's Emma Kamper defeated Baylor's No. 48-ranked Na Dong 6-4, 6-1 to tie the overall match for the Utes at 1-1.

Baylor quickly pulled away with two wins of their own at the No. 2 and No. 4 spots to bring the overall match 3-1.

Utah's Hayley Roberts extended Utah's lifeline by defeating Baylor's Gabrielle Villegas 6-0, 7-6(7) at the No. 6 spot.

The overall match came between Utah's Emmie Moore and Baylor's Alian Zack on court No. 2 and Utah's Emma Valletta and Baylor's Luna Ivkovic on court No. 5, who were in their third set.

At the No. 2 spot, Utah's Moore fell in the first set 2-6 but responded with a 6-4 second set victory to push her match into extra sets. Moore defeated Baylor's Zach 7-5 to tie the overall match at 3-3 for the Utes.

Utah's Valletta lost her first set 2-6 but won her second set 7-6(2) to push the match into a third-set tiebreak. Valletta would fall 3-6 to Ivkovic in the third set, and Baylor would clinch the overall match.

UP NEXT
The Utes will return home for senior weekend, hosting Arizona (April 9) and Arizona State (April 11).
