IRVING, Texas – Five members of the University of Utah softball team were honored on Wednesday when the Big 12 released its annual all-conference selections and Utah's honorees were led by
Hailey Maestretti and
Mia Gomez, who both earned spots on the All-Big 12 Second-Team.
Gomez was also chosen for the Big 12 All-Freshman Team, where she was joined by teammates
Danika Wilson,
Cian Noli and
Payton Crank. The four all-freshman team picks matches the highest total in program history, previously set in 2014. Gomez, Noli and Wilson were all unanimous all-freshman choices and Utah's four appointments were the most of any Big 12 squad.
Maestretti merited all-conference recognition by crafting a sophomore year that put her at or near the top of the Big 12 leaderboard in a slew of statistics. Her six shutouts placed her third in the league and are the most by a Utah pitcher since Kristin Arbogast logged seven in 2001. Her 2.38 ERA rates as fourth-best, her 14 complete games put her second and the 13 wins she's piled up are the conference's seventh-most. She's also been at her best against some of league's toughest competition, firing complete game shutouts against then-21st ranked Arizona State and then-No. 1 Texas Tech, as well as consecutive triumphs over No. 19 Arizona on May 3 and 4.
Gomez has put together one of the best rookie years in Utah history and she started it by reaching base in her first 36 collegiate games, the longest on-base streak in program history. The 11 homers she's belted are tied for the fourth-most ever by a Utah freshman, while her 64 hits, 13 doubles and .493 on-base percentage all rank in the top 10 in the Big 12. Her .388 batting average is the highest on the roster and she's tied for the team lead in multi-hit performances, with 17, and multi-RBI games, with 12.
Wilson's freshman season saw her put together an impressive on-base streak of her own of 24 games that stretched from March into April and that stint also included an 11-game hit streak, tied for the team's longest in 2026. In conference competition, no Utah player drove in more runs than Wilson's 16 and she also finished the year with a flourish, batting .435 with two homers and 11 RBIs over her last eight games. She can add this all-freshman team selection to a list of 2026 achievements that already includes two Big 12 Freshman of the Week awards.
Crank took home a freshman of the week award of her own on April 21, part of a debut season that saw her finish among Utah's leaders in runs scored and hits. She was also one of the team's best clutch hitters, logging three or more RBIs in a game seven times, tied for a team-high, and piling up 11 two-out RBI knocks, tying her for the second-most on the squad. In the field, Crank was flawless all year, not making an error while contributing 49 putouts and two assists.
Noli spent her first collegiate season providing the Utes with an excellent glove at first base to go with a reliable bat that contributed a .315 average, five homers and 34 RBIs. Noli also contributed 11 two-out RBI hits to go with 10 multi-RBI performances. After getting off to slow start at the plate, no Ute has been a better hitter for Utah than Noli since the start of March, with her .387 average and 28 RBIs both tops on the squad over the last 33 games. That includes a .324 clip in Big 12 play, bested only by Gomez's .338.
