Student Athlete Wellness Team
Improving student athlete performance requires an interactive approach that combines medicine, psychology, nutrition, and health. The student Athlete Wellness Team focuses on prevention, therapy, and performance. We link a variety of specialties and help student athletes develop a broader understanding of physical, mental, and emotional wellness. Referrals to anyone on the team can be made through a trainer, coach, or Student Athlete Support Services. Athletes may also contact individual members directly.
Members on the Team include a team physician, athletic trainer, strength coach, sports dietician, sports psychologist, social worker, representative from the Women's Resource Center and Counseling Center and the Director of Student Athlete Support Services. Meetings are held monthly throughout the regular school year to discuss the care of the student athlete.  The sports dietician screens all the freshmen and transfer student athletes. It is through this information that student athletes might be identified as someone who should be monitored, or referred to the Team. Once referred, the Team discusses an appropriate treatment plan for the student athlete and makes sure they are meeting the student athlete's mental health and to coordinate treatment plans between providers.  All information is confidential.
