MIDWAY, UTAH - Following the second day of competition, the University of Utah Ski Team has moved up into fifth place after a successful day in the men's and women's freestyle cross country races. Colorado leap-frogged Vermont, moving into first place. Denver recovered from a disappointing first day, advancing into second, followed by Vermont.
Denver's charge into second was driven by Pietro Broggini, Jorn Frohs and Wolf Wallendorf who finished 1-2-3 in the men's 10km freestyle. Utah's Rob Whitney followed the trio in fourth place. Other Utah skiers included Petter Svendsen who place 14th and Torin Koos who earned 38th.
In the women's race, Katerina Hanusova won the title, finishing 17 seconds ahead of Denver's Britta Wienand. Utah's Kristina Joder took fifth place. Other Ute competitors were Marika Engstrom who took ninth and Lene Pedersen who placed 15th.
The third day of racing will be tomorrow as the championships move back to Park City for the slalom races. The women will start off the day with the first run at 9:30.
