Official attendance: 52,919
Today's attendance marked the 79th consecutive sellout of Rice-Eccles Stadium, dating back to the 2010 season opener vs. Pitt. It is the third-largest attendance in Rice-Eccles Stadium history.
Offense
As of the 8:08 mark of the fourth quarter, quarterback Nate Johnson has four completions of 15-plus yards. It includes a long of 35 yards to Devaughn Vele during the third quarter.
Wide receiver Devaughn Vele started after missing last week's game vs. Weber State.
Running back Jaylon Glover made his second reception as a Ute; it was a career-long 17-yarder late in the second quarter. Glover's other reception was a six-yard catch at Washington State on Oct. 27, 2022.
Tight end Landen King had a seven-yard touchdown reception just before halftime; it was King's first touchdown as a Ute and his second collegiate score. His other came vs. Alabama on Nov. 27, 2021, when King played at Auburn.
Just after halftime, Vele made a season-long 35-yard reception. It was his longest since a 47-yard reception vs. Penn State in the Rose Bowl last season.
Defense
Utah has a defensive takeaway in all four games this season.
On the very first play from scrimmage, Karene Reid recorded his third career interception and returned it 21 yards for a pick-six. It was Reid's first career pick-six and first interception since Sept. 17, 2022 vs. San Diego State.
Reid is the first Ute with a pick-six on the first play from scrimmage since Sunia Tauteoli (41 yards) vs. BYU on Sept. 10, 2016. Also vs. BYU on Nov. 24, 2000, Andre Dyson had a 24-yard pick-six on the second play from scrimmage.Â
Entering today across FBS football, there had been 13 pick-sixes on the first play from scrimmage. Reid's and Tauteoli's are the only known ones in the Pac-12 since at least 2007.
Utah last had a pick-six in back-to-back games on Oct. 1 (vs. Oregon State) and Oct. 8, 2022 (at UCLA). Clark Phillips III had both.
The pick-six was Reid's second career touchdown; he had a scoop-and-score at Oregon in 2022.
Though UCLA recovered the fumble, defensive tackle Keanu Tanuvasa had a strip-sack during the first quarter. It was Tanuvasa's first career forced fumble.
Tanuvasa reset his career-high in TFL during the first half (previosly 1.0 at Baylor).
Defensive end Logan Fano recorded his first career pass breakup. Fano also forced a fumble in the third quarter; it is his second straight game with a forced fumble.
Reid surpassed his season-high tackles (previously 3) during the third quarter.
