In his first season as a graduate assistant coach, former Utah and NFL cornerback Brandon Burton is helping with the Ute secondary. Last year he worked as a Utah football administrative assistant.
Burton played at Utah from 2007-10, redshirting his first season and earning second team All-Mountain West honors as a junior in 2010. His 18 career pass breakups in three seasons ranks in the top 10 (including ties) all-time at Utah and his 10 pass breakups in 2009 tied for second in the conference. He is best remembered for blocking a field goal as time expired to give Utah a 17-16 win over BYU in 2009.
Burton skipped his senior season to enter the NFL Draft and was selected in the fifth round with the 139th overall pick by the Minnesota Vikings. He played in 14 games with the Vikings in 2011-12 before going to the Buffalo Bills, where he saw action in five games in 2013. He was picked up off waivers by both Cincinnati and Indianapolis in the 2014 offseason before an injury ended his career.
The Houston native received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Utah in 2016. Burton, 29, is currently taking graduate classes in psychology.
