Keeler McJunkin joined the Utah Athletics staff in February 2025 as assistant athletics director for strategic communications, to serve as the lead media contact for the Utes' football program. McJunkin came to Utah from the University of California, where he served as director of athletics communications and was the primary contact for Cal's football program.
In his role with the Utes, McJunkin is responsible for managing all aspects of media and public relations for the football program, including the development of messaging and storytelling strategies to enhance the image of the program. He also collaborates with key internal stakeholders to contribute heavily to the development and execution of content creation initiatives, conducts media training sessions, and oversees all aspects of media services, including game notes, statistics, records and historical archives.
McJunkin spent five years at Cal, working with the Bears' football, softball, volleyball, track & field and lacrosse programs in his time in Berkeley. He was promoted to serve as the primary football contact in 2024 after serving as the secondary contact for two years. In his role he handled all aspects of media relations, including press conferences, interview requests, game notes, press releases, media guides, media training and feature stories. McJunkin also served as the secondary men's basketball contact from 2019-21, and was selected to participate in Cal Athletics' Emerging Leaders Program, a year-long commitment designed to develop up-and-coming employees for leadership roles within the athletics director's cabinet.
Prior to his time at Cal, McJunkin spent 2018-19 at Michigan State, where he served as the primary media contact for the Spartans’ women’s soccer, track & field/cross-country and women’s gymnastics programs. He also was the secondary men’s basketball contact for Tom Izzo’s team that competed in the Final Four.

McJunkin spent one year Georgia Southwestern State University, from 2017-18, as an assistant athletics communications director, following a one-year stint as media and operations director for Lane United Football Club in his hometown of Eugene, Ore.

A graduate of the University of Oregon, McJunkin earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism. He and his wife Abby were married in 2024.Â
