Utes to try and bounce back against Oregon State on Sunday
EUGENE, Ore. - Despite Anna Solomon matching her season-high with four saves, the University of Utah women's soccer team dropped a narrow, 1-0 decision to the Oregon Ducks on Thursday night at Pape Field in Eugene, Ore.
Utah is now 2-3-1 in 2026.
Both back lines remained stout for much of the second half, though Solomon did make one stop in the 56th minute, followed by another in the 69th. The Ducks managed to get one past Utah's keeper in the 79th minute, when a cross from Ellie Felt found Savannah Holley in the box and Holley headed the ball in to break the deadlock.
The Utes spent the final 12 minutes furiously pushing for an equalizer. They earned a corner in the 80th minute and a shot by Maddie Stoddard moments later sailed wide. Julia Oka put a header on target in the 82nd minute, only to see it saved by Willson and a Sophie Bellini try shortly after was blocked. Ava Martinez unleashed one final effort in the closing moments, sending in a shot from 20 yards out, but another denial by Willson thwarted Utah's final chance.
The visitors posted eight total shots on the night from eight different players. Martinez, Oka and Affleck were all credited with on-frame efforts. For Solomon, this marked her third game and second straight with four saves.

"Tonight was another game that came down to one play," said coach Hideki Nakada, "and unfortunately for us, it didn't go our way. It's painful having to learn these lessons this way, but we have to take the lesson, own it, and get better from it so we can start getting the results I know this group is capable of. Sunday gives us another opportunity. We'll regroup, get back to work, and be ready to compete."
Both defenses proved nearly impenetrable during the first half, as Utah and Oregon combined for just three total shots. The Ducks sent in a pair of on-target tries in the first 10 minutes, but Utah's Anna Solomon stopped both and the Utes held the home team without another shot on goal for the final 35 minutes of the period. The Utes totaled three shots in the opening half, including an effort that Abby Affleck put on target in the 30th minute, but Gray Willson's save kept the match scoreless, which it remained into halftime. Both back lines remained stout for much of the second half, though Solomon did make one stop in the 56th minute, followed by another in the 69th.
