Clem Scores in Utah’s 1-1 Draw with Oregon State

Utes Outshoot Beavers 19-8
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Reese Clem netted her second goal of the season as the University of Utah women's soccer team recorded a 1-1 draw with the Oregon State Beavers on Sunday afternoon at Paul Lorenz Field in Corvallis, Ore.
The Utes' 2026 ledger now stands at 2-3-2.
"There's no reason we shouldn't have won this game based on the way we performed overall," said coach Hideki Nakada. "The positive is we've played well enough to win every game we've played during this stretch. We're not far away from getting the results we desire, but we have to be more clinical and more disciplined in the moments that matter."
The Utes created a few early opportunities, one of which came in the 10th minute, when Anna Solomon sent a free kick into the box that was chased down by Clem. When Clem's cross into the box was deflected by OSU's London Tsuma, a hand ball was called that gave the Utes a penalty kick. Clem converted the chance into a goal and a 1-0 lead.
The Beavers organized their first real attempt to counter about seven minutes later when a Sophie Zboyan pass sent Tsuma down the right side of the attacking area and Tsuma lofted in a cross, but Brooke Gardner's header from the top of the six-yard box blunted that thrust. Soon after, Shannon Davidson twice nearly increased the lead for the visitors, but one shot in the 22nd minute was blocked and another try moments later from inside the box was deflected wide.
Utah's back line held firm for most of the first 45 minutes, but in the 41st minute, a cross from Zboyan found Abby Smith in front of the net and Smith redirected the ball into the net to level the score. That tie remained intact into halftime.
Early in the final period, the Utes put pressure on the home team by earning four consecutive corner kicks and that hard work led to a chance that nearly broke the tie in the 56th minute. Clem's pass sent Kori Pickelle on a run into the attacking area and Pickelle's cross was nearly deflected in by an OSU player, but the ball instead bounced off the post and the score remained even.
The push for the go-ahead goal continued from the away side, as a Katie Callaway shot in the 61st minute sailed just high, as did an attempt from Pickelle in the 64th and Jastel David in the 69th. Rylan Park and Davidson nearly connected for a score in the 73rd minute when a cross from Park found the head of Davidson on the left side of the six-yard box, only for the header to narrowly miss the target.
The Utes thought they had the game-winner when a Sophie Bellini header off a Park cross ended up in the back of the net, but a VAR review ruled Bellini offside and nullified Utah's last and best chance to secure a victory. Utah's defense, meanwhile, held the hosts to just four total shots and one on-target effort in the second half as both sides finished the afternoon on level ground.
The match ended with Utah holding a 19-8 edge in total shots, the fifth time in seven matches Utah has led in that statistic. Nakada's club also tallied six shots on goal compared to only three for OSU. Davidson put up a team-high four shots, while Pickelle and Julia Oka posted three, with two of Oka's tries ending up on frame. In goal, Solomon scooped up two saves.
"It's been a difficult stretch," said Nakada, "playing four games in 10 days against well-rested teams. Now we're looking forward to having a proper week of training and getting ourselves ready for a very good Long Beach team next weekend."
