Michael Tamayo begins his first year with the Runnin’ Utes program as the creative content manager in June of 2022.
He spent the past four years (2018-22) with the Utah cross country and track & field program, three as the director of operations and one as a volunteer.
Prior to coming to Salt Lake City, Tamayo ran track and field at UNC Charlotte (2011-16). He then served as a volunteer coach with the 49ers after graduation while also co-managing the top local running specialty store in the city. In 2017, Tamayo competed in the 1000m semifinals at the USA Championships.
During his time at UNC Charlotte, Tamayo was the school record holder in the 600m, 800m, 1000m and 1500m events. He still currently holds the school record in the outdoor 800m while also sitting in the top-10 in several events. His senior season saw Tamayo qualify for the NCAA East Regional just a few weeks after him setting the school 800m record (1:48.94).
Tamayo graduated from UNC Charlotte with a degree in communications and marketing in 2016.
