Wil Stanley, enters his fifth season with Utah volleyball in 2025 where he will serve as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator after helping Utah get back on track in 2024 with their 19th NCAA appearance in program history, and a No. 23 final ranking.
Stanley, a recent AVCA Thirty Under 30 College Award honoree, is over Utah's offensive attack focusing his efforts on center and pin play, as well as the offensive scout report.
During the 2022 season, Stanley was key to the development of freshman standout KJ Burgess, who went on to earn AVCA Pacific South Region Freshman of the Year honors, as well as a spot on the All-Pac-12 Freshman team. Burgess earned the yearly award after leading all Pac-12 freshmen in hitting percentage and blocks per set, while ranking in the top-six nationally among freshmen in both categories. Burgess led the Utes in blocks per set (1.20) and hitting percentage (.376), and finished the regular season in the top-five among all Pac-12 players in each category. Her .376 hitting percentage ranks second all-time at Utah in a single season.
In just his first season with the Utes, Stanley helped guide Utah to its sixth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance and third consecutive third-place finish in the Pac-12 Conference. The 2021 Utes posted a 22-9 overall record and ranked in the top-25 the entire season, with the highest ranking coming in at No. 10 in the nation. The 14-6 record in Pac-12 play tied a program-best win mark since joining the conference in 2011.
Stanley's expertise as an All-American setter proved invaluable as he coached senior transfer Stef Jankiewicz to an All-Pac-12 honorable mention in just one season with the team. Stanley and the Utes finished the year ranked No. 18 in the nation in assists per set (12.87), while guiding the attackers to a No. 8 ranking in the nation for kills per set (14.25) and No. 30 in hitting percentage (.259). Â
Stanley was a standout student-athlete himself at BYU from 2017-2021, where he earned All-American honors twice as a setter. The Honolulu, Hawaii native ranked No. 3 in the MPSF and No. 9 in the NCAA in assists per set in 2021, leading the Cougars with 790 assists. He was a first-team All-American selection and first-team MPSF honoree. Additionally, Stanley was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team after guiding BYU to the championship match.
