SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Hanno Mottola had 14 points and 10 rebounds as Utah beat Wake Forest 63-45 on Monday night for the Runnin' Utes' 26th straight home win.
Utah (8-4) fell out of the top 25 for the first time since 1994 after losing at Texas on Dec. 12, but the Utes have won five of their last six and all of their five home games this season by an average of 21.8 points.
The Demon Deacons never mounted a threat against the Utes, whose defense limited Wake Forest star Robert O'Kelley to 4-for-11 shooting. O'Kelley, Darius Songaila and Rafael Vidaurreta accounted for 39 of the Deacons' 45 points.
The Utes made a 9-0 run shortly after halftime that put them up 39-20 with 17:05 to play. Utah led by as much as 22 points early in the second half before a 12-0 Wake Forest run, but Jeremy Killion and Mottola hit 3-pointers that helped put the game away.
Utah's winning streak in the Huntsman Center is the fifth-longest in the nation. Wake Forest, which won here in 1996, was the last team to beat the Utes at home.
Wake Forest (9-4) was playing its final game before the start of Atlantic Coast Conference play. The Deacons have lost two straight after winning eight of nine games earlier in the season.
Utah held the Demon Deacons scoreless for 5:49 midway through the first half and made a 19-5 run that gave the Utes a 30-18 halftime lead. Wake Forest managed only 18 shots in the first half and made eight turnovers.
Andre Miller finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists, and Alex Jensen had 11 points for Utah. Songaila's 15 points led all scorers, while Vidaurreta had 12 points and eight rebounds.
Wake Forest and Utah met for the fourth consecutive season in a rivalry that began when Tim Duncan and Keith Van Horn were two of college basketball's top players. The Deacons won the first two games of the series, but Utah has now won two straight.
