SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's soccer team defeated Kansas 2-1 in an intense overtime game. The Utes dominated the game out shooting the Jayhawks 27 to 12, including 14 shots on goal.
Sophomore midfielder Amy Kofoed scored Utah's first goal less than four minutes into the game when she dribbled through the Kansas defense for an unassisted shot. The goal marks Kofoed's second of the season and ties her with Staci Burt for first on the team in scoring (four points).
In the second half, the Jayhawks tied the score when defender Kylie Watts slammed a shot from a direct free kick by midfielder Cynthia Dahle.
The game was decided in overtime when Ute freshman Brittany Harlan received a pass from defender Dana Bolton and slammed a 15 foot shot into the bottom right hand corner of the Kansas net.
Freshman Courtney Hills records her second win of the season allowing one goal and making seven saves.
The Utes return to action Mon., Sept. 6 at 12:00 p.m., when they take-on No. 15 ranked Texas A&M. The game will be played at Ute Field.
