The University of Utah gymnastics team has been picked fifth in the nation in the preseason coaches poll. Defending champion Georgia was voted No. 1 with 854 points, followed by Alabama (825), UCLA (816), Michigan (806) and Utah (770). The remainder of the top 10 had Nebraska at No. 6 (680), No. 7 Arizona State (644), No. 8 Penn State (590), and No. 9 (tie) Florida (584) and Louisiana State (584). Utah will meet four top 10 teams this year in No. 2 Alabama, No. 3 UCLA, No. 7 Arizona State and No. 10 LSU. The Utes, who have no unranked teams on this year's schedule, also face No. 12 Oregon State, No. 14 Minnesota, No. 16 Arizona, No. 19 Washington, No. 21 Utah State and No. 23 BYU. The Utes open their season on Jan. 14 in the Huntsman Center against Utah State. Other home meets are: Minnesota (Jan. 21), BYU (Feb. 4), UCLA (Feb. 14), Arizona (Feb. 25) and Washington (Mar. 3). All meets start at 7 p.m.
