TUCSON, Ariz.--The University of Utah women's soccer team improved to 2-3-1 with a 4-1 win at Arizona.
Utah struck early and often, with three goals in the first 24 minutes of the contest and tacked on one more for good measure with only three minutes remaining in the game. Sophomore Katie Tate started the assault in the sixth minute when she collected a shot by sophomore Maren Harper, that ricocheted off a Wildcat defender, and stuck it in the net. Freshman Amber Brower recorded her first career goal in the 19th minute, and her second in the 87th minute. Utah scored on a penalty kick in the 24th minute when freshman Missy Dennis booted it through for a 3-0 advantage. Sophomore Courtney Hills posted a shutout in the first half of play, before freshman Lynnsey Asay relieved her in the second half and relinquished only one goal. The two goalkeepers combined for two saves on only three shots-on-goal.
The Utes play host to Nevada-Reno Fri., Sept. 15 at 5 p.m.
"This was a good win for our team in very hot conditions," said Coach Amy Winslow. "We did a couple of things defensively to reserve our energy in the heat. We rebounded well from Friday night."
