SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Chris Burgess had 17 points, including nine straight free throws in the second half, as Utah defeated Idaho State 75- 58 Friday night.
Nick Jacobson added 16 points as Utah (7-3) won its fourth straight game. The Utes improved to 7-0, holding their opponents under 50 percent shooting.
Burgess also had 10 rebounds and four blocks for the Utes, who made 19 of-22 free throws in the second half after attempting just two in the first.
Jeremy Brown scored 17 points and D'Marr Suggs added 11 for Idaho State (5-5), which fell to 1-4 on the road. The Bengals managed just two 3-pointers, a season-low, against Utah's aggressive man-to-man defense.
Eric Osmundson scored on 3-point plays of both types in succession pushing Utah to its biggest lead, 54-33, with 11:49 to play.
Dion Jackson answered with five points in a 11-2 surge to bring the Bengals to 56-44.
The Bengals couldn't stop Burgess inside, so they fouled him instead.
A 44-percent shooter from the line, Burgess made nine straight free throws over a three-minute stretch as the Utes expanded their lead to 69-50 with 4:11 remaining in the game.
After Trace Caton hit a 3-pointer to put Utah ahead 30-16, it looked like the Utes were poised for a blowout. But Brown scored seven of his 11 first-half points over the last 6:36 of the first half and helped draw ISU within 35-26 at the break.
In a plodding first half with no fast break points, 12 of Utah's 13 field goals were assisted as the Utes used a deliberate passing offense to find open shots.
Utah has won five consecutive games against ISU and has never lost at home to the Bengals in 12 contests.
