SALT LAKE CITY (AP)- Utah attempts to extend its winning streak to 12 games and win a sixth consecutive conference title when it visits BYU on Friday night.
The 13th-ranked Utes started the season 11-0 before losing their last two non-conference games, but have won 11 straight since Mountain West play began.
Utah (22-2, 11-0) beat Colorado State 67-59 last Saturday to clinch at least a share of the conference's regular season title. The only team that could catch the Utes is Colorado State, which must win its final four games while Utah loses its last three.
The Utes, however, hold the tiebreaker over the Rams by virtue of their two victories over the Rams, and would be the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament.
Utah won the inaugural Mountain West regular-season title last year after winning four consecutive WAC championships.
Defense has keyed Utah's success all season, giving up a nation-best 49.4 points per game and allowing opponents to shoot just 33.3 percent from the field.
The Utes have surrendered more than 60 points just twice and have held the opposition under 40 four times.
Including last season's conference tournament, Utah has won 16 straight against Mountain West opponents, but the Utes face a challenge at BYU.
The Cougars (15-9, 7-4) are 4-0 at home in league play, and have won five of their last six games since losing 67-57 to Utah on Jan. 27 in Salt Lake City.
Utah has won the last six meetings with BYU and leads the all-time series 46-24.
